GE HealthCare Acquires Intelligent Ultrasound Group $51 Million

Intelligent Ultrasound Group announced today that it completed the sale of its clinical AI business to GE HealthCare (Nasdaq: GEHC)+.

This business offers integrated, AI-driven image analysis tools designed to make ultrasound smarter and more efficient. The transaction excludes Intelligent Ultrasound’s NeedleTrainer products and its simulation business.

GE HealthCare said in July that it agreed to acquire the unit for a total cash consideration of approximately $51 million. The company plans to incorporate the newly acquired solutions across its ultrasound portfolio. It aims to strengthen its capabilities through improving workflows and enhancing ease of use for clinicians and patients.

Intelligent Ultrasound Group develops the ScanNav Assist AI technology to power its SonoLystlive and SonoLyst X/IR. It offers these for the GE HealthCare Voluson Expert and Voluson Signature ultrasound devices, as well as the Voluson Swift. Acquiring this business brings an AI innovation pipeline to GE HealthCare’s ultrasound efforts, the company says.

GE HealthCare said in July that it plans to bring on a team of R&D experts from Intelligent Ultrasound. It expects that group to drive AI-enabled image recognition and innovation for its Women’s Health ultrasound devices and across the broader portfolio. This adds to the company’s 2023 buy of Caption Health, which added capabilities in AI-enabled image guidance.

Riccardo Pigliucci, Intelligent Ultrasound chair, said chief technology officer Nicholas Sleep joined GE HealthCare as part of the acquisition.

“We are pleased to complete the sale of our clinical AI business to GE HealthCare for £40.5 million and I would like to thank [Sleep]… for his drive and superb contribution to building such a successful Clinical AI operation,” Pigliucci said. “He and his excellent team will all be missed.”
